The Mashiko ware of the Tochigi prefecture was the pottery of the local area which made daily necessaries from the end of Edo era.

Shoji Hamada and Bernard Leach made it famous.
The place where they worked is saved as a Mashiko reference museum.
Their studio and exhibition hall are at beautiful nature environment.
There is a lamp shade designed by Shoji Hamada. It introduces.

There are about 400 potteries in the present Mashiko town and near. It is said that Mashiko pottey became famous to a folk-craft china in Japan and outside from1955 age .
